Postdoctoral Research Associate – CHIPS Funded Project
This position is part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. NIST seeks researchers from academic institutions to collaborate on projects of mutual interest. The selected postdoctoral researcher will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration.

Title:
Thermal 3D Magnetic Imaging of Advanced Semiconductor Packages
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Help develop custom-designed magnetic microscopes for thermal imaging
- Collaborate with team members to perform thermal imaging of semiconductor test packages
- Develop user-friendly image reconstruction software based on existing Python code, including machine learning classification of results
- Help develop software for automated synthesis of magnetic nanoparticle tracers
- Present results at internal meetings, meetings with external stakeholders, and conferences
- Ensure that results, protocols, software, and documentation have been archived or otherwise transmitted to the larger organization
- Help write journal papers covering project results
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in physics, physical chemistry, materials science, engineering, or a related field
- 3 years of relevant research experience
- Demonstrated experience working with custom electronic, magnetic, or optical instrumentation
- Demonstrated experience with data visualization, creating software user interfaces
- Familiarity with programming languages Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW
- Familiarity with design tools like Solid Works or Autodesk Inventor
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Salary Range $82,000‑$89,000 a year
