PREP Research Associate – Community Resilience Metrics and Survey Research for Field Studies and Investigations
OverviewThis position is part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. The role focuses on developing science‑based tools and metrics to measure community resilience at the community scale, working collaboratively with the University of Maryland on a first‑generation community resilience assessment methodology.
Responsibilities- Carry out indicator development methodologies.
- Compile and clean large datasets.
- Determine and implement methods to analyze complex data for validation.
- Develop innovative methods and research directions supporting project goals.
- Present results at internal meetings and occasional meetings with external stakeholders.
- Ensure that results, protocols, datasets, and documentation are archived or otherwise transmitted to the larger organization.
- PhD in Urban Planning, Social Science, Civil or Structural Engineering, or related field.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Expertise in statistical analysis, econometrics, and scale development.
- Knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
- Familiarity with publicly available data sources.
- Ability to work with complex data at varying spatial‑temporal scales.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to write technical reports.
Pay range: $90 – $119 per hour, dependent on experience, location, and other factors.
