Summary
The Membership Manager is responsible for the strategic growth and day-to-day operations of the Society’s membership program. This role owns the full member lifecycle — from recruitment and onboarding through renewal and retention — with a particular focus on growing overall membership numbers and expanding the Society’s multi-disciplinary base of physicians, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, researchers, and other allied health professionals engaged in the field.
The Membership Manager builds data-driven growth strategies, cultivates relationships with new professional communities, and ensures members across all disciplines and career stages experience the full value of Society membership.
- Develop and execute an annual membership growth strategy with clear acquisition, retention, and expansion targets.
- Identify, prioritize, and cultivate new member segments.
- Establish new membership pipelines by building relationships with residency programs and professional organizations
- Design and manage early-career membership pathways with dedicated dues tiers and programming to build long-term member loyalty from residency onward.
- Monitor membership trends and competitor associations to inform pricing, benefits, and positioning strategy.
- Track membership growth analytics, membership engagement beyond dues payment, and KPIs and report progress to leadership through membership dashboards
- Develop and maintain a member engagement scoring model to identify at‑risk members for proactive retention outreach.
- Own membership revenue goals and forecast dues revenue in partnership with the CEO.
- Manage full processing of new and renewal memberships, including dues invoicing and email, mail, and phone renewal/reminder campaigns.
- Own the end-to-end onboarding experience for new members, ensuring a smooth, welcoming transition into the Society
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date membership records: segmented by discipline, specialty, career stage, and geography — and provide reporting as needed.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for member inquiries, ensuring high-quality, responsive customer service.
- Gather member feedback through surveys, focus groups, and one-on-one outreach to continually refine the value proposition for each discipline.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to highlight membership benefits and growth opportunities across disciplines.
- Ownership of membership‑specific email/marketing automation performance (open rates, renewal campaign conversion)
- Managing the membership pages of the website
- Collaborate with marketing to develop social media or member spotlight content specifically for recruitment (member testimonials, "why I joined" features)
- Develop discipline‑specific outreach campaigns to reach prospective members in target professional communities.
- Serve as a representative of ASCCP and staff the exhibit booth at conferences, as needed, to recruit new members and enhance engagement.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, or a related field, and at least five years of relevant experience; experience in membership or association management strongly preferred.
- Prior experience within a medical, healthcare, or professional nonprofit association is a plus.
- Demonstrated track record of growing a membership base or expanding into new audience segments.
- Goal‑and‑customer‑service‑focused, highly motivated as well as highly motivating, self‑directed, and collaborative in work style.
- This position is privy to sensitive materials; the ability to maintain the strictest confidentiality and a neutral, professional posture is required.
- Exceptional computer skills, including Microsoft Office and association management/CRM database systems (e.g., iMIS, Salesforce, or similar).
- Fluency in data/analytics (Excel and reporting/dashboard tools)
- Website content management systems (Word Press) experience is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse professional audiences.
- Preference given to candidates living within 90 minutes of the Washington DC metro area.
- Experience working in a virtual environment.
