Work ScheduleCompressed work schedule Tuesday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Position is part‑time Merit.
Main Purpose of JobThis position serves as a uniformed member of the Honor Guard Funeral Details of the Maryland National Guard Regiment 600‑25 and Maryland Article 65, Section 6. The incumbent represents the State of Maryland and the Military Department at burial services for military veterans.
Position DutiesAs an intermediate‑level honor guard, responsibilities include performing specialized team positions such as pall bearing, flag folding and presentation, casket bearing, casket watch, and firing detail in accordance with standard procedures. Duties also involve executing military drill and ceremonial maneuvers; operating, maintaining, and safeguarding military weapons; upholding exceptional standards of military bearing and appearance; attending scheduled funeral training; preparing records and reports related to honor guard activities;
and performing other duties as required.
- High school diploma or high‑school equivalency certificate.
- No prior experience required; experience as a uniformed honor guard may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Must be an active or retired member of the Maryland National Guard or another U.S. armed force in good standing.
- Must successfully complete an eight‑hour gun safety and weapons usage class.
- Must complete one hundred forty hours of honor guard training, including eighty hours of attendance at an Army or Air Force Honor Guard School.
- Must have completed Military Basic Training.
- Must pass all physical fitness, appearance, and training requirements as set forth in Army Regulation 600‑9 and Air Force Instruction 40‑502.
- Must bear firearms and demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis.
- Must comply with substance abuse testing per Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09.
- Must be free of disciplinary action and subject to background investigations, including regular criminal history checks.
