Position:
Security Assistant (School Security).

Location:

Brown Station Elementary School, Gaithersburg.

Schedule:

Full-time, 80 hours bi-weekly. Working months: 10. Grade: 14 Optimal Qualified.

• Assist the security team in screening visitor access to school facilities and maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.
• Support maintaining student attendance records and perform other security-related duties as assigned.
• Follow guidance from the security team leader on difficult or unusual situations.

• Required to work flexible hours and weekends as assigned by the principal/security team leader to maximize security coverage.
• Occasional overtime may be required.
• Wear designated security uniforms.
• Physical ability to intervene in fights, restrain individuals if necessary, and perform security patrols; ability to patrol outdoors in inclement weather.

• Knowledge of safety procedures and welfare practices; behavior management techniques; security practices and procedures.
• Investigative procedures knowledge is desirable; ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of MCPS policies on student attendance, suspension, and behavior standards.
• Effective communication with students and staff; ability to work with others under supervision; excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to meet the seven core SSPGS competencies.

• High School diploma or GED required;
  Associate degree preferred. College coursework in criminology, law enforcement, or related fields recommended.
• Experience involving student or community safety, preferably in an educational setting. Investigation experience desirable. Security experience in protecting persons and property preferred (e.g., police officer background).
• Other combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills will be considered.

• Possession of a valid Maryland Class C noncommercial driver’s license or equivalent.
• First aid and CPR certification.
