Carpenter II.
Facilities Management Division:
The Carpenter II will be part of the Facilities Management Division. This Division of 118 staff provides for the care and maintenance of the Department's physical assets including facilities, pavement, fleet, and major building systems. With a budget over $13 million dollars, the division is responsible for facility condition assessments, major and minor maintenance programs, and serves as the primary support to the Department's Capital Improvement Projects (CIP).
The division strives to achieve a balance between the upkeep of aging facilities and new construction by integrating a number of CIP and major maintenance projects into the daily work program each year.
The Carpentry shop consists of 15 staff engaged in park renovation and improvement projects including upgrading park activity buildings and picnic shelters, constructing park kiosks, and making repairs to aging infrastructure on Parkland in nature centers, maintenance yards and other buildings. Staff complete preventative maintenance projects such as building and roof inspections and gutter cleaning.

Examples of Important Duties
Performing Skilled Carpentry Tasks
* Performs all aspects of carpentry to construct, maintain, or renovate Commission buildings.
* Performs difficult and skilled carpentry work involving considerable responsibility.
* Ensure framing work is square, plumb, level, and properly secured.
* Accurately measure, cut, drill, route, and shape various materials.
* Installs and/or replaces doors and window squares, plumb, and meeting proper clearances.
* Fabricates and installs laminates and fine cabinetry products.
* Repairs, replaces, or installs roofs.
* Pours and finishes concrete.
Tool and Equipment Operation
* Drives motor vehicles to carry workers and haul tools, equipment, and materials.
* Sets up equipment and tools for safe operation at job site.
* Operates skid loader, man lift, forklift, and works on scaffolds and roofs.
Projects
* Reads and interprets building plans, blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
* Determines precise evaluations of repairs needed.
* Estimates materials and tools needed.
Preferred Qualifications
* Knowledge of standard carpentry practices and methods, Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), fire, and building codes.
* Previous experience leading or directing work activities of trades crew.
Minimum Qualifications
* High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
* Completion of an approved carpentry apprentice program or four (4) years of progressively responsible carpentry experience.
* Two (2) years of carpentry experience at the journey level.
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.
* Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
* Depending on area of assignment, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements may be required and must be in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.
* Pass Commission medical examination.
