Leidos is seeking a Software Development III to join the Air Traffic Business Area within the Homeland Sector, supporting the development of the Leidos Common Automation Platform (L-CAP) for the Leidos common baseline program
. This role focuses on developing microservices-based applications in an Agile / SAFe environment while supporting a mission-critical, hybrid cloud data mesh automation platform.
Location: 9737 Washingtonian Blvd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878
Schedule: 40 hours/week, typical 9-5 schedule
Assignment Type: Temporary with possible FTE conversion

- Design, develop, and maintain microservices-based applications using modern software engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with product owners, architects, systems engineering, product delivery, Dev Sec Ops , QA, platform, and program teams.
- Participate in sprint planning, daily standups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Translate requirements into working software solutions.
- Develop clean, maintainable, and testable code following CI/CD and Dev Sec Ops practices.
- Contribute to system design discussions and technical decision-making.
- Integrate services with databases, messaging systems, and external APIs.
- Support troubleshooting, performance tuning, and continuous improvement.
- AI / AI Assistants coding.
- C++.
- Hands‑on experience building and supporting microservices-based systems.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Java, Python, C++, or similar, on a Linux-based system.
- Understanding of APIs and distributed system concepts.
- Experience working in Agile environments.
- Java.
- Experience or exposure to AI/ML-enabled systems, including Claude-Code, automation, or intelligent platforms.
- Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
- Relational and/or No
SQL databases. - Kafka or other event-streaming technologies.
- Cloud experience: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Containerization and orchestration experience:
Docker, Kubernetes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 2-4 years of professional software development experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Public Trust eligible; can start contingent.
- Clearance/access may be obtained post-hire.
- Background investigation required by the government customer.
This role supports an Agile development team pod of approximately 6-7 people. The work environment is fast-paced, involves frequent change, and is suited for a self-starter who can operate effectively in a challenging environment.
