Job DescriptionPay: $30
Shift: 5:30 AM – 5:30 PM (Monday‑Friday); occasional Saturday.
Job SummaryDrivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments, depending on the line of business. They transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycle facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial drivers pick up containers filled with waste or recyclable material, often weighing in excess of 1,000 pounds, and maneuver them onto a pick‑up stage. Drivers navigate high‑traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, performing highly skilled backing maneuvers.
Residential drivers collect household waste or recyclable material and safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments. Roll‑off drivers prepare, load, and transport large open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, operating in tight overhead environments on industrial routes.
- Operate the vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and DOT requirements, as well as all local, state, and federal laws.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of the assigned vehicle and document checks using the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report).
- Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify the Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notify the Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, closed or impassable streets or alleyways, heavy receptacles too difficult to service, or potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
- Perform all duties as scheduled by the Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
A. Required Qualifications
- At least 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL, or at least 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
- Minimum age 18 and legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- Successfully complete pre‑employment screening, including drug screen and physical exam.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air‑brake endorsement, or CDL Class B with an air‑brake endorsement.
B. Preferred Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED (accredited).
The job requires standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, talking, and hearing.
This role is designated safety‑sensitive and will require strict compliance with all safety rules and protocols. The successful candidate may be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre‑employment, post‑incident, reasonable suspicion checks, and random testing, in accordance with government regulations and company policies.
