Overview
FY27:
Warehouse Worker (10 mo) in the Department of Food and Nutrition Services. 8 hours per day, 10 months. Ad closes 7/24/2026.
Location:
Gaithersburg.
Schedule:
Full-time | 80 hours bi-weekly. Working months: 10.
- Under close supervision, perform routine manual and clerical work related to the selection, storage, inventory control, issuance, loading and delivery of supply and food items or the delivery of mail.
- Move materials by hand or using electric material handling equipment; operate power material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Possibly operate a light truck and/or perform central mail room tasks as instructed.
- Follow clearly established policies and regulations for processing incoming and outgoing mail, including U.S. mail, inter-office mail, and pony mail; pick up mail, sort and distribute to addressees.
- Work involves moving bulky, moderately heavy packages; handle items weighing up to 100 lbs as required.
- Some knowledge of warehousing and store keeping practices; safe and efficient operation of power material handling equipment.
- Knowledge of safe operation of a light truck and understanding of traffic rules and regulations.
- Ability to rapidly and accurately fill orders, including proper palletization; check supplies accurately; maintain store records and reports.
- Ability to operate power pallet trucks and other warehouse equipment following established safety standards.
- Ability to read, follow simple oral and written instructions, write, and perform basic computations.
- Good communication and human relations skills; ability to learn assigned clerical and mail handling tasks and recall addressee names and office locations.
- Knowledge of the seven core SSPGS competencies (Supporting Services Professional Growth System).
- Completion of the ninth grade required;
High School diploma or GED preferred. - Some experience as a stock clerk; some experience in operation of a light truck (required for some positions).
- Other combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Certificate/License:
Possession of a valid Maryland Class C noncommercial driver’s license, or equivalent; OSHA-certified in power industrial equipment (or ability to complete certification).
Ability to grasp and move heavy items up to 100 lbs; sustained movement of materials.
Special RequirementsOvertime, including weekends, may be required.
