Residential Direct Support Professional II Floater Sub-Relief (Carroll, Grayson, Galax)

Direct Care Service Providers (e.g., Non-licensed; registered; certified)

A Residential Direct Support Professional (RDSP), supports individuals with intellectual or development disorders to include individuals that are dually diagnosed including but not limited to serious mental illness, substance abuse, and medical diagnosis. A Residential Direct Support Professional provides person-centered support with daily tasks, medication administration, skill development, and advocacy to support and promote maximum independence as possible for each individual while providing guidance and safety support in all areas ensuring they are active, integrated into their community, and achieve personal goals.

RDSPs work in homes, group homes, or community settings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
:

  • To provide support for medical needs, which include scheduling and accompanying individuals for all routine well and sick-care appointments, help the individual to explain their symptoms when sick and to understand and follow doctor's orders. Residential Direct Support Professionals (RDSPs) assume the responsibility for receiving all physician and pertinent medical documentation and following all doctors’ orders in providing care for individuals in service.
  • All RDSPs levels are responsible to maintain current certification in First Aid/CPR/AED. Provide input into and/or actively develop a person-centered service plan to support individuals served in the community. DSP IIs are required to successfully complete the Board of Nursing approved 32-hour initial medication class and maintain an annual recertification. Additionally, DSP IIs may be required to complete specialty training in areas of;
    Gastrostomy Tubes, Insulin, etc., as appropriate to the individuals residing in the home. Moreover, RDSP IIs are responsible for administering medications as prescribed and monitor for any potential side-effects, reporting observed information to the prescribing physician. DSP IIs will complete and attend all assigned and required training for the individual's treatment and needs.
  • To appropriately intervene in crisis situations and emergencies and make referrals to and seek consultation from other sources as needed. To provide a safe home environment and complete required emergency drills as required by licensing and/or other governing entities.
  • To provide the best life possible for all individuals served in each aspect of their lives by providing skill buildings and support to promote maximum independence for each individual according to their specific needs and in accordance with their Person Centered Plan.
  • To provide opportunities for each individual to explore integrative activities that are familiar as well as providing new experiences to expand their knowledge of the world in which they live promoting their development of relationships and natural supports. To provide transportation, secure funds, and facilitate positive communication by teaching skills to further their independence and to provide safety supports.
  • To maintain all required training, including but not limited to HCBS upon hiring and yearly, are completed within compliance and with agency policy. RDSPs are responsible for accurate, informative documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Knowledge of Developmental Disabilities and related conditions.
  • Good oral communication and computer skills.
  • Ability to interact with people in a supportive and therapeutic manner.
  • Willing to work flexible hours including overnight, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work independently and with supervision.
  • Criminal background and DSS registry check required.
  • Valid Driver's license (U.S. issued) and a copy of DMV safe driving record.
  • will pass initial drug screenings and as requested by Chief Residential Officer in conjunction with the Human Resource Office
  • Will have reliable transportation to and from work for assigned work schedules.
  • Will operate an agency vehicle as needed or assigned for the individual's needs.
  • Will provide adequate notice for any alteration of a schedule.
  • Understands schedules can include nights, evenings, holidays, and weekend flexibility for the needs of the individuals.

RDSP II:
High School diploma or equivalency with certification as a Medication Aide within 90 days of hire.
