The Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) is a professional that helps individuals struggling with addiction and substance abuse. The CSAC’s role is to work on identification of the underlying causes of addiction and to create personalized treatment plans to help individuals overcome their addiction and achieve lasting recovery. This position will provide individual and group counseling to individuals presenting for SUD treatment.
The CSAC may also provide counseling and support to individuals' families and loved ones.
- Conduct assessments to determine the nature and extent of substance abuse and related problems
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that address the unique needs and goals of each individual.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions and provide individual counseling to individuals
- Implement crisis intervention strategies to manage acute situations effectively
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, families, and other support systems to ensure individuals receive comprehensive care
- Provide education and resources to individuals and their families on substance abuse treatment, coping strategies, corresponding health issues, and other related topics
- Document individuals’ progress and maintain accurate and up-to-date records
- Stay current with developments in the field of substance abuse counseling and incorporate best practices into treatment plans
- Collaborate with supervisor, reimbursement, and third-party payors to request service authorization and advocate for service needs
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices in the field.
- Other Duties as assigned by supervisor
Skills: Strong clinical, interpersonal, empathy, communication, and documentation skills.
Compliance: Knowledge of ethical guidelines and relevant state regulations
Education: Bachelor's required;
Master's degree preferred in counseling, social work, psychology, or related field.
Certification: Valid Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) credential
