Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional

This is a grant-funded position. Employment is contingent on the availability of ESSER funds. The intent of ESSER funding is to help safely reopen and sustain the safe operation of schools and address the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on students.
Assist teacher in preparation, delivery and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.
Minimum
Education/Certification:
Graduate from a GPISD high school Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a career in education. Meet NCLB by having one of the following:
Minimum of 48 hours of college course work Documentation of passing an approved para educator assessment 2.5 GPA Work in GPISD 15-20 Hours per week Full time student =12 hours Hold or apply for a state standard educational aide certificate through the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)

Responsibilities and Duties:
Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups. Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers. Assist teacher on preparing instructional materials and classroom displays. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
Help maintain neat and orderly classroom. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance. Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned. Homegrown students model ethical and respectful behavior and demonstrate integrity in all situations including maintaining confidentiality unless disclosure is required by law.
Homegrown students will comply with TEA, District, and Campus policies, procedures, and requirements. Homegrown students clearly communicate the mission, vision, and the goals of the school to students, colleagues, parents and families, and other community members. Homegrown students perform other duties as assigned.
