Coordinator of Adult Learners and Veterans Affairs – Volunteer State Community College
Job Summary:
The Coordinator of Adult Learners and Veterans Affairs (VA) assists the Manager with the primary responsibility of offering education and support services to Veterans and Military-Connected Students. Coordinates and acts as a liaison with college staff, outside agencies, and VSCC students who utilize the Tennessee Reconnect State Program and VA and Military Education Benefits. Ensures services comply with Federal and State regulations and that the College's policies align with the mandates of the VA, THEC, T , and DoD.
Assists in developing and implementing programming to recruit and retain Adult Learner Students and promotes initiatives that support Veteran Students in their transition from military to civilian life during their college career.
- Provide academic advising for Veterans and Military-Connected Students.
- Counsel and support Adult Learners, Veterans, and Military-Connected Students regarding career, academic, and personal matters affecting degree/certificate completion.
- Manage and track Early Alerts for Veterans and Military-Connected Advisees.
- Serve as one of the primary School Certifying Officials for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Perform certification of benefits for Veterans and Military-Connected Students in the VA benefits certification system to ensure accurate and timely payment of education benefits to students and the College, while maintaining Veteran records.
- Complete annual training mandated by the VA to maintain the School Certifying Official role.
- Collect, prepare, and submit information for the College's annual catalog approval packet as required by THEC and the VA.
- Collaborate with offices across Vol State campuses to establish best practices for assisting Adult Learners, Veterans, and Military-Connected Students.
- Advise and serve as the contact between students, faculty, and academic division deans for Prior Learning Assessment credit.
- Assist in coordinating and leading information sessions/orientations and other events to aid academic success and retention of Veterans and Military-Connected Students.
- Develop and implement workshops, presentations, Veterans Day events, and related activities to educate the campus community about the needs of Veterans and Military-Connected Students.
- Assist with social media, website, and other efforts to reach out to Adult Learners, Veterans, and Military-Connected Students, ensuring information is updated regularly.
- Support student membership and participation in the college's Student Veterans of America organizations.
- Manage and oversee Veteran Student Workers per the VA School Certifying Official Handbook.
- Travel locally in the Middle Tennessee area, as needed, to visit Vol State regional campuses, attend professional development activities, engage in recruitment, and collaborate with outside agencies.
- Ability to alternate and/or work extended hours when necessary to accommodate the needs of Veterans and Military-Connected Students.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- One year of related experience.
- Experience working with adult learners, international students, veterans, and military-connected students.
- Academic advising experience.
- Experience working with State and Federal agencies and programs.
- Knowledge of Tennessee Reconnect Program and/or THEC programs.
- Experience with Banner or a similar ERP system.
- Knowledge of and experience with Enrollment Manager (VA Certification for Educational Benefits) System.
- Exceptional customer relations and interpersonal skills.
- Strong case management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with emphasis on accuracy and detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication; ability to work cooperatively with a diverse population.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
- Training and leadership skills.
Pay Rate: $47,276 - $59,095 annual salary depending on experience.
