The Technical Project Specialist L1
The Technical Project Specialist L1 is a critical role on our Design, Engineering and Construction team within the security services department to support small moves, adds and changes of the security systems. This role requires technical knowledge of planning and security systems with a strong ability to project manage across multiple cross functional partners.
Up to 50% of time in the local office (must be seated in Ashburn, VA | New Albany, OH | Mesa, AZ | Gallatin, TN | Rosemount, MN)
Occassional travel may be required
Responsibilities:- Designs standardized processes and Best Practices from initiation to completion in partnership with SMEs, including project scope, technical requirements, documentation, measurements/KPIs, communication plans, change control, cutover planning, implementation, and project closeout for security Small Moves, Adds, and Changes (SMAC) across data center environments.
- Manage end-to-end technical project plans ensuring on-time delivery while driving execution across security work streams (e.g., access control, video, alarms, monitoring/GSOC integrations), including milestones, dependencies, procurement lead times, install windows, commissioning, and handover.
- Researches and evaluates industry standards and benchmarks to support security SMAC projects, including physical security and life safety adjacency considerations, data center operating constraints, and audit/compliance alignment.
- Fosters strong cross-pyramid partnerships and is able to effectively prioritize workload demands to meet project deadlines, coordinating with Facilities, Site Ops, Networking, Construction, Logistics, Security Engineering, and vendor partners.
- Create sustainable communication themes in conjunction with systematic routines, processes, and preparedness activities for clients to execute consistently, including recurring status reporting, stakeholder updates, and readiness checklists for security changes.
- Distinctive problem-solving and analytical skills combined with strong business acumen and technical savviness, including the ability to translate security requirements into executable technical tasks and validate completion against acceptance criteria.
- Acts as the liaison and point of contact for both internal and cross-functional projects, serving as the primary driver for scope alignment, risk/issue management, escalation paths, and decision capture for security SMAC.
- Evaluate project status and resource utilization; implement changes as needed; review status reports prepared by project personnel and modify schedules or plans as required, including rapid re-planning for site constraints, outage windows, and operational impacts.
- Create project plans and build consensus among diverse sets of stakeholders, including ownership of RAID logs (risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies) and change management artifacts for security implementations.
- Support management through project planning and coordination to meet commitments on time and within resource limitations; with client and management approval, assist with the determination of technical requirements, priorities, deployment sequencing, and monitoring of progress for site-level security work.
- Work within program discipline and develop expertise as the documentation subject matter expert (SME), to expedite revisions, corrections, and changes to previously published technical documentation (drawings/as-builts, SOPs, access control procedures, device inventories, testing records, turnover packages) related to security SMAC.
- Meet regularly with client management for status updates, including structured reviews of delivery health, open risks, upcoming site impacts, and resource constraints.
- Provide ongoing communication of planning, project status, issues and risks in a timely fashion to internal security teams, cross functional management and executive teams, including executive-ready rollups and site-level implementation details.
- Lead daily operations and direct the implementation of standards, procedures and best practices that ensures a cohesive, consistent and uniformed global program, specifically for security SMAC delivery in operational data centers and in-flight build environments.
- Manage performance metrics to evaluate progress and success, including throughput, cycle time, schedule variance, defect/rework rates, and commissioning/acceptance pass rates.
- Manage large new build auditing processes, ensuring security deliverables are tracked, tested, documented, and transitioned to steady-state operations with clear ownership.
- Plan and support audit test program, execute on audit fieldwork testing, and report on the adequacy and effectiveness of physical and environmental security, including evidence collection, remediation tracking, and validation of corrective actions.
