Job Description
- Setup, programing, adjustment and operation of laboratory equipment and instruments such as vision system, microscopes, metallograph, mounting press, balance scales, tension/compression force tester, salt spray cabinets, electronic torque drivers and other test equipment
- Tests materials/products for physical properties (hardness testing, metallurgical properties, etc.)
- Prepares and tests samples using metallographic techniques to assure manufactured products conform to specifications
- Uses Measurlink software (SPC charts, X‑Bar R charts, histograms, control limits, etc.)
- Has basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Email, etc.)
- Records test results on standardized forms and enters data into applicable database
- Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment
- Maintains calibration on all measuring and test equipment used throughout the plant, including retaining certifications on file
- Orders supplies used for various tests
- Reviews, interprets and applies industry standards (ASTM, etc.) and/or customer specifications
- Understands first article, in‑process, final and receiving inspections and performs different levels of audits
- Uses hand tools for inspection such as calipers, micrometers, scales, conversion charts, etc.
- Uses comparators and vision systems (Keyence IM, TM‑X)
- Performs dock audits, extended stress testing, PPAP layouts
- Has knowledge of SPC data analysis
- Performs 5S responsibilities
- Prepares and presents quality audit reports to senior management
- Uses Rockwell hardness testers and has basic understanding of GD & T, blueprint reading, as well as ISO/TS16949 & ISO/IEC 17025 requirements
- Cross‑trains with department co‑workers to increase knowledge, flexibility and efficiency of the overall ITW team
- Maintains equipment with daily inspections
- Follows all rules, regulations and work processes set forth by the company
- May be assigned other duties for training, additional assistance or other reasons as necessary by management
- Is self‑accountable to create and maintain a safe working environment
- Competently performs all tasks with a focus on safety within a fast‑paced environment
- Contributes to team effort by focusing on continuous improvement and success for the entire team
- Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school, or a certification program for metallurgy, metallography, or metrology preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2–3 years in a manufacturing environment with quality assurance/control experience
- Ability to use calipers, micrometers, indicators, thickness gauges, thread gauges, optical comparators, vision measurement systems, torque testers, force testers, and Rockwell hardness testers
- ASQ certification preferred
- Experience operating a forklift
- Moderate to high computer knowledge
- Great organizational and time‑management abilities
- Attention to detail
- Effective professional communication with the public or any level of employees
- Ability to safely work in a fast‑paced environment
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to convert measurements between units preferred
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small‑group situations to customers, clients, and other employees
- Ability to work in a team environment or independently
- Ability to work overtime
