This position is for the UNM-Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.
The University of New Mexico-Gallup Branch, Center for Career and Technical Education Department, anticipates hiring adjunct faculty to teach face‑to‑face and/or develop lower division courses (100-200 level) in the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters in the following anticipated potential disciplines:
Fall Semester- CRJS 293:
Fireline Fitness (2 credit hours) - FISC 101:
Principles of Emergency Services (3 credit hours) - FISC 102:
Fire Prevention (3 credit hours)
- BSTC 293:
Introduction to Structural Firefighting (3 credit hours) - FISC 105:
Principles of Fire and Emergency Services, Safety, and Survival (3 credit hours) - BSTC 293:
Firefighter Health and Safety (2 credit hours)
The University of New Mexico established branch colleges to provide the highest quality of education for students pursuing post‑secondary education at different locations throughout the state. Branch colleges respond specifically to the unique needs and multicultural backgrounds of their respective communities by offering community education programs, career and technical education including certificate and associate degree programs, and transfer programs that prepare students for upper division entry into colleges and universities.
The Center for Career and Technical Education at UNM Gallup Branch is seeking qualified temporary part‑time faculty members to teach lower‑division classes in various courses or topics as specified above. UNM Gallup instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class they are teaching including but not limited to meeting face‑to‑face with the class during assigned times that may include evenings or weekends, content delivery, assignment development, grading assignments, reporting of grades, and assessment of student learning as outlined by the division chair.
Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the division chair.
WagesAdjunct Faculty are currently compensated on the basis of their credentials and credit hour course loads.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ work in Fire Science or closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications and/or industry‑recognized credentials within the fire service (i.e., Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials, Wildland Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, Incident Command Systems/ ISC 100/200/700/700, National Incident Management Systems/ NIMS).
- Demonstrated teaching experience in Fire Science Technologies or closely related field (e.g., Emergency Services, First Response).
- Minimum of IFSAC or Pro Board Fire Instructor II Certification.
- Associate Degree (AAS or AS) in Fire Science Technology or closely related discipline.
- Three (3) years’ experience developing and delivering instructional materials and information in a classroom setting at either the secondary or post‑secondary level.
- A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university’s mission to serve local and global communities.
