Salary ranges are:
- Power System Operator Trainee - $27.89 to $45.42/hr
- Power System Operator - $41.21 to $67.10/hr
- Sr. Power System Operator - $45.43 to $73.98/hr
Under general supervision of the Power System Supervisor, this position performs professional-level scheduling, marketing, distribution, and real-time generation control of energy from various power pool resources. The role ensures that load demands are met in the most economical and efficient manner while adhering to system operating constraints and all applicable industry and regulatory guidelines. The LAC Power System Operators (PSOs) are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of all privileged information and providing excellent customer support.
PSOs are also accountable for ensuring compliance with applicable operating standards and prudent utility practices.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two years of work experience in a professional office setting.
- Able to work weekends and holidays on day or night shifts as scheduled.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE issued LANL badged. (Not a Q clearance)
- (Internal Hire) Currently employed as a Power System Operator Trainee working for Los Alamos County DPU for six months and the successful completion of all Power System Operator qualifications as defined, verified by, and approved by the Power System Supervisor.
- (External Hire) Two years of experience working in a power system operator role, which must include experience in power system generation, energy and voltage control, electric transmission and distribution system operations and schedule tagging, and which must include one year of experience scheduling / dispatch power.
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college, university or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
- (Internal Hire) Five years as a Power System Operator working for Los Alamos County.
- (External Hire) Six years working in a power system operator role, of which must include experience in power system generation, energy and voltage control, electric transmission and distribution system operations and schedule tagging, across all years of experience and of which one year of experience scheduling power.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university or trade school in electrical systems, or related field.
- Experience in the utilities industry.
- Experience and general understanding of Engineered Systems.
- NERC Certification (Active or Inactive)
