Senior/Principal Facilities Technologist - Mechanical Systems Outages, Onsite What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a detail-oriented Technologist to lead the coordination and execution of mechanical systems outages across the Sandia NM site, ensuring safety, efficiency, and minimal impact to mission-critical operations.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

Coordinate and plan all mechanical systems outages across the Sandia NM site to ensure safe and efficient execution.

Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams including Mechanical and Electrical engineers, fire protection, security, operations teams and maintenance planning departments to align outage schedules and requirements.

Develop, review, and maintain detailed outage procedures to support safe system shutdowns and start‑ups.

Communicate proactively with building operations, occupants, maintenance teams, and external service providers to minimize operational impact and maintain mission continuity.

Monitor and track outage progress, promptly addressing any issues or changes to maintain schedule and safety standards.

Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, site policies, and industry best practices during outage planning and execution.

Facilitate post‑outage reviews and lessons learned sessions to continuously improve outage planning processes.

Maintain accurate documentation and records related to outage planning, approvals, and execution.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$63,800 - $123,400

* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

High school diploma plus three (3) or more years of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience coordinating mechanical outages and/or maintenance activities in a large, complex facility or industrial environment.

Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE L‑level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

Familiarity with mechanical safety standards, development of procedures, and outage management processes.

Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, safety personnel, security, and facility management.

Strong organizational and communication skills demonstrated through managing schedules, writing technical procedures, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.

Experience with outage documentation, such as writing procedures and post‑outage reports.

Prior experience in a mission‑critical or high‑reliability environment is a plus.

Experience working in a facilities management and maintenance organization.

Familiar with NNSA, DOE, or other federal government requirements.

Knowledge of mechanical systems to include HVAC, chilled water plants and hydronic heating water systems.

Working knowledge and understanding in facilities engineering and construction as well as industry standard methodologies.

Proven ability to initiate effective internal customer relationships.

Ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion as well as effectively prioritize and implement multiple high rigor tasks in a high‑pressure environment.

About Our Team

The Mechanical Engineering Department is responsible for daily Mechanical system operations, lifecycle asset management (LCAM) planning (tactical and strategic) for Mechanical systems, and reliability‑centered maintenance (RCM) for Mechanical systems and components. The department addresses daily Mechanical system issues, performs minor Mechanical system designs, conducts design reviews, asset health monitoring, operational and asset failure data analytics, failure mode effects analysis, and asset criticality assessments to support LCAM planning and sustainment.

The department develops lifecycle asset management plans (LCAMPs), asset specific RCM maintenance strategies & plans, and manages the design manual and specifications.
