R&D Laboratory Support Technologist – Calibration & Maintenance, Onsite
We are seeking an R&D Laboratory Support Technologist to support our Calibration & Maintenance Team. The individual will perform calibration and maintenance of equipment and supporting activities related to equipment lifecycle management, instrumentation support, process mechanics, computer and PLC applications, system testing, troubleshooting, and data collection and analysis in Center 7500.
ResponsibilitiesOn any given day the technician may be called on to:
- Execute calibrations and maintenance on a variety of equipment such as ovens, furnaces, temperature chambers, vacuum systems, welders, laser markers, part‑cleaning systems, and production testers.
- Troubleshoot and repair production equipment, including PLC control systems, computer hardware, and related sub‑components.
- Run equipment, collect and analyze data, and provide actionable reports.
- Review, revise, and back up computer software, including Windows OS, LabVIEW, and various PLC application programs.
- Interface extensively with Center customers to provide strong technical support and communicate status updates.
- Manage high‑volume, variable requests from equipment owners, lab owners, and building residents.
- Work on‑site; relocation to a Sandia National Laboratories facility is required.
$63,800 – $123,400 (estimated; final salary determined by experience, qualifications, and geographic differential)
Qualifications We Require- Associate’s degree in a technical field such as electronics, manufacturing technology, engineering technology, or a related technical field; or equivalent (no degree + 4 years of experience).
- Experience in equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
- Ability to work independently, manage and prioritize work, and work effectively under stressful situations.
- Demonstrated safety practices and critical‑thinking/problem‑solving skills in hands‑on work environments.
- Model Sandia’s core values in behavior.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing technology, engineering technology, or a related technical field.
- Experience with calibration of equipment to customer standards.
- Experience reviewing, revising, and backing up computer software including Windows OS and PLC software applications.
- Experience in equipment installation, utility requirements, facilities management, and construction management.
- Effective teamwork and customer‑service skills.
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDsIf you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED) such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug‑releasing pump, hearing aids, or other diagnostic equipment measuring body functions, employment at Sandia National Laboratories may require compliance with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
Position InformationThis Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary one‑year term, renewable at Sandia’s discretion up to a maximum of seven years. LTE employees may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates and may be converted to regular career positions during the term if warranted by operational needs and job performance.
