What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a Summer - R&D Graduate Intern from one of the university partners in the Consortium of Hybrid Resilient Energy Systems (CHRES) (University of New Mexico, University of Texas
- El Paso, Universidad Ana G. Mendez
- Gurabo, and Universidad de Puerto Rico
- Mayaguez) to join our dynamic research organization during the summer of 2026. This initiative is sponsored and funded by the NNSA Minority Serving Institutions Partnership Program (MSIPP) for Sustainable STEM Workforce.
- Work collaboratively with R&D staff with developmental research, analysis of technology and engineering options, project design, testing, formulating conclusions, data collection and analyzing experimental results.
- Develop models for specific energy systems.
- Apply models to analyze specific energy systems.
- Analyze data from experimental testing related to specific energy systems.
- Apply total systems models for hybrid energy systems.
Candidates selected for an internship will be placed in the Applied Energy Program and in a related R&D area befitting the candidate's education, experience, and interest. Applicants must submit a current copy of their resume to be considered for this position. Placement determination is made by the Hiring Manager, but candidates should express a first and second area of interest.

Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
- Earned bachelor's degree
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- U.S citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S.
Note:
If you have not yet started your graduate program, please apply to an undergraduate intern position.
- Currently attending and enrolled full time (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program at one of the following CHRES partner universities:
University of New Mexico, University of Texas
- El Paso, Universidad Ana G. Mendez
- Gurabo, and Universidad de Puerto Rico
- Mayaguez - General knowledge of research principles and processes
- Understand the use of a variety of research tools
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to contribute as part of a team
- General knowledge of project management
- General knowledge and good understanding of a suite of software, including Microsoft Office
- Strong technical skills within their degree discipline
- Ability to develop and present ideas and results in oral and written form
