Early-Career RD Cybersecurity – OT Cyber, Hybrid

Sandia National Laboratories requires an early-career research scientist to conduct applied research in operational technology (OT) cybersecurity. The role involves protecting programmable devices that interact with the physical world from advanced threats.

• Perform vulnerability assessments of OT systems and devices.
• Develop and implement defensive measures for critical OT systems and devices.
• Evaluate new and emerging information assurance technologies.
• Research, develop, and implement technology solutions to improve OT systems.
• Support the development of innovative cyber systems.
• Propose new research internally and externally.
• Present and demonstrate work to customers and stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent education and experience demonstrating independent research and development capability.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.
• Graduate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a thesis or independent research component (desired).
• Experience in reverse engineering, software vulnerability assessment, web application assessment, computer networking, computer architecture, or similar cybersecurity topics.
• Proficiency in scripting or high-level programming languages.
• Familiarity with secure-system design principles and information assurance principles.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical ideas concisely in oral and written formats.
• Ph.D. in a relevant field (desired).
• Experience with OT device vulnerability analysis, OT system security, OT cybersecurity policy, or application of AI tools to cybersecurity problems (desired).
• Knowledge of platform security, hardware design, embedded systems security, and related areas (desired).
• Experience with static and dynamic software analysis or debugging tools (desired).
• Active DOE/DOD Q clearance or ability to obtain; SCI clearance or ability to obtain (desired).

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship. Background investigations, drug testing, and verification of personal, employment, and education records will be conducted.

$102,400 – $199,700 (estimated; final salary will be based on experience, qualifications, and geographic differential).
