Target Pay Range/Rate: $24.471 hourly or $50,899.68 annually
The Eleventh Judicial District & Magistrate Courts are recruiting for one full-time Judicial Specialist 2 position for our Gallup Magistrate Court #. This position may be assigned to a rotating schedule which may require the selected applicant to work at our other court locations in San Juan and McKinley County.
General Statement of DutiesActing under general supervision, prepare and process court documents, perform judicial procedures, and work with the court case management system. Essential functions include:
- Specialized clerical and technical duties involved in case processing, case management, and clerical business of the Court.
- Administer jury functions, file court documents, and receive fines, fees, restitution and bond payments; balance and reconcile daily cash receipts.
- Generate court documents, arrange for service and mail to parties of a case, draft correspondence in reply to requests for case inquiries.
- Enter case information into an automated case management system.
- Assist the public, law enforcement officials and attorneys, providing a high level of customer service and working well under stress.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet the operational needs of the court. Finalists will be subject to criminal background checks.
Job Duties
- Open, docket, and close cases using the case management system based on judgment details.
- Provide customer service information to a high volume of pro se litigants, offering procedural guidance without legal advice.
- Assess, record, and reconcile monies; prepare bank deposits following cash handling procedures.
- Process and maintain documents, files, and case materials; use electronic filing to review incoming filings for format, signatures, event codes, and filing fees.
- Execute on case hearings including orders to show cause, bench warrants, recusals, excusals, pleadings, and rule extensions.
- Maintain cash till, ensure accurate assessment and receipt of court fees, and correct recording in the case management system.
- Provide public case information to parties, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and other outside agencies.
- Manage jury summons, prepare alpha lists, random lists, voir dire sheets, and seating charts for jury trials.
- Organize case files for microfilming, archiving, and destruction; prepare exhibits and hard‑copy case files.
- Ensure office, courtrooms, and equipment are operational; maintain judicial calendars and schedules.
- Perform clerical and technical duties related to case processing, file maintenance, jury management, and the conduct of the clerical business of the court.
The successful applicant should demonstrate knowledge of legal terminology and phrases, basic knowledge of jury service, filing methods, case processing, knowledge of Specialty Court Programs, research methodology, project management techniques, court fee accounting practices, court monitoring procedures, the Court Clerk’s Procedures Manual and Code of Ethics, the court’s and state’s Language Access Policies, access to the Certified Language International Interpreting Line, and the general organizational structure of the judiciary.

Work is performed in an office or court setting. A valid driver's license and travel may be required. The assigned work schedule may include overtime. The employee must regularly interact positively with co‑workers, clients, judges, and justices.
