Client DetailsLPNs are often the "frontline" caregivers, focusing on direct patient care for stable patients with predictable outcomes.
Monitoring Patient Health:
Regularly checking and recording vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration) and observing patients for any changes in physical or mental condition.
Basic Patient Care:
Assisting patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, eating, and personal hygiene.
Medication Administration:
Administering most types of medications (oral, topical, intramuscular, subcutaneous) and immunizations, following the "five rights" of administration (right dose, route, time, site, patient response).
Wound Care:
Performing basic and some specialized wound care procedures, such as cleaning, dressing changes, and applying compression therapy, often following an established care plan.
Clinical Procedures:
Performing tasks like inserting urinary catheters, collecting specimens (urine, blood, sputum)
Provides essential, direct patient care under the supervision of RNs or physicians, focusing on monitoring health, administering medications, and assisting with daily living activities. They work in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and home health settings, performing tasks like wound care, IV maintenance, and patient education.
