Summary

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 2, Mora National Fish Hatchery, Mora, New Mexico

Major Duties

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:
Completes repairs and preventive maintenance to building and facility electrical systems such as lighting and power fixtures, pumps, wells, blowers, backup generators, monitoring and alarm systems, wiring, fire or water alarm systems, and emergency power systems; includes 110V, 277V, 480V, 4/20mA, three phase and single phase, etc. Performs routine preventive maintenance on heating systems and refrigeration and air conditioning units.

Examines and operationally tests electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems for proper operation, fluid levels, cycling, and unusual noises. Removes, replaces, and repairs defective components. Adjusts equipment controls, such as temperature sensors, thermostats, and leak detectors. Performs plumbing tasks to hatchery reuse systems, well pumping systems, and various buildings and structures. Operate various electric resistance welding machines such as spot, seam, and flash, or use a manual gas torch welding process such as oxyacetylene, to join a variety of different kinds of parts or components, and determine the welding techniques and machine settings to be used.

Welds various metals, cast iron, and steel pipe in flat, curved, vertical and horizontal positions using oxygen-acetylene cutting torches, and metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG) and arc welders in the shop or field to repair, modify or fabricate parts or equipment. Applies standard measurements, specifications, and instructions when constructing, installing, or repairing items such as frame structures, decking, partitions, shelving, doors, forms, siding, and scaffolds.

Measure, cut, construct, install, repair, and modify wood, composite, and wood substitute items to rough finishes. Uses and maintains tools and equipment, records inventory and maintenance, and reports/documents equipment damage or loss. Assists with spawning of brood stock; incubation of eggs; feeding, cleaning, and sample counting of fry and fingerlings; cleaning of raceways and tanks; distribution of eggs, fry, fingerlings, and adults;

and the tagging and marking programs. Rotates on holding hatchery alarm phone and works unusual tour of duty such as weekend shift and occasional holidays.
