Electrical And Instrumentation Technician
The City of Galt is currently accepting applications for Electrical and Instrumentation Technician. Base Pay:
Effective July 1, 2027 - $42.18 - $51.76. Additional pay (upon assignment and eligibility):
Longevity Pay, Bilingual Pay, Medical-in-lieu, Incentives, On Call Pay, Standby Pay.

IUOE, Local 39 Represented Non-Exempt. Performs highly skilled electrical/instrumentation installation, repair, maintenance, and modification work; performs related work as assigned. May assign, direct, and review the work of staff engaged in electrical/instrumentation installation, repair, and maintenance of work.
Supervision received from the Utilities Maintenance Supervisor. Supervision exercised over no direct staff.
Class characteristics include performing specialized electrical technician duties, providing technical instruction and expertise to other staff, acting independently, and keeping supervisors apprised of work needs.
Examples of duties include inspecting, installing, repairing, maintaining, calibrating, testing, and troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and other process instrumentation; performing preventative maintenance; inspecting facilities and equipment; installing, troubleshooting, and repairing automated telemetry equipment; calibrating equipment and instruments; reading and interpreting electrical and electronic schematics; using and performing maintenance on tools and test equipment; maintaining an inventory of materials, tools, and supplies; maintaining and calibrating critical equipment for facility safety;
conferring with operations staff; attending training and safety sessions; operating a standard vehicle to travel to multiple locations; and performing other related duties.
Typical qualifications include knowledge of electrical maintenance and repair principles, data acquisition and control instrumentation, regulations, schematic diagrams, water and wastewater systems, variable frequency drives motors and control systems, test equipment and tools, safety practices, recordkeeping principles, business arithmetic techniques, customer service techniques, English language structure and content, modern equipment and communication tools, and computers and software programs.
Ability to inspect, operate, diagnose problems, perform preventive maintenance and repair work on electronic meters and recording instruments and SCADA systems; analyze work problems and make corrections; read and interpret gauges and recording devices; read and understand sketches, equipment manuals, schematic diagrams, construction drawings, and blueprints; safely and effectively use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, power tools, and equipment required for the work;
perform support for engineering, fabricating, and design duties; maintain logs, records, parts inventory, reports, and charts; perform work in confined spaces; understand, interpret, and apply laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures; represent the department and the City in meetings; learn and understand the organization and operation of the City and of outside agencies; independently organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments;
effectively use computer systems, software applications, and modern business equipment; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment; establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships.
Education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of experience in electrical/instrumentation technology, or other field closely related to water or wastewater plant electrical/instrumentation work.
Licenses and certifications include a valid Class C California driver's license, Mechanical Technologist Grade I Certificate from the California Water Environmental Association, CWEA Electrical and Instrumentation Tech 2, or the Certified Control Systems Technician Level I (CCST). Desirable certifications include California state Water Treatment T1, California State Wastewater Operator Grade 1, Class B driver's license with Airbrake and Tanker endorsement, Electrical and Instrumentation Technician 3, Mechanical Technologist Grade II, Collection Systems Maintenance I or above.
Physical demands include mobility to work in wastewater treatment plants, water plants, and related facilities; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work, to work in confined spaces, around machines and to climb and descend ladders, and to operate varied hand and power tools and construction…
