Tarvos Talent growing and well-established construction organization is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to join its finance team in Galveston. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys partnering with operations, owning project financials, and making a direct impact on project success.
In this role, you'll work closely with project managers and executive leadership to oversee the financial performance of large-scale construction projects from start to finish. You'll have visibility into project profitability, budgeting, forecasting, contract compliance, and revenue recognition while helping strengthen financial processes and controls across the organization.
Responsibilities- Manage the financial accounting for assigned construction projects, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, billing, and project reporting.
- Prepare owner billings/draw requests and monitor collections.
- Review subcontractor and vendor invoices for contract compliance and budget accuracy.
- Track project costs, budgets, revenue, profitability, and forecast financial performance.
- Support month-end close activities, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and contract requirements.
- Maintain project documentation and financial records.
- Partner with project managers and operations to provide financial insights and resolve project-related accounting issues.
- Assist with audit preparation, process improvements, and ad‑hoc financial analysis.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of accounting experience in a project-based, construction, engineering, or government contracting environment
. - Strong understanding of project accounting principles and revenue recognition.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUPs/VLOOKUPs, and financial analysis.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across finance and operations.
- Experience with CMiC, Textura, or similar construction accounting software is highly preferred.
- Experience supporting audits and documenting accounting processes is a plus.
