General DescriptionThe purpose of this class within the organization is to performs accounting tasks such as account analysis, journal entries, and reconciling bank statements.
Duties and Responsibilities- Monitors assigned funds, which includes reconciling assets and liabilities and analyzing revenues and expenditures to ensure budget vs. actual is appropriate on a monthly basis.
- Performs daily accounting review and approval of activity for assigned departments; prepares needed journal entries or bank transactions in the general ledger.
- Prepares and submits bank reconciliations monthly on a timely basis.
- Works with relevant departments regarding inventory and provides fuel usage information to the accounts receivable accountant for timely billing.
- Effectively communicates with departmental staff, other county staff and external customers.
- Works to ensure compliance with governmental accounting standards.
- Assists in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Prefers an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Prefers experience in government accounting, general finance operations or closely related experience.
Physical Demands/Work EnvironmentPhysical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
