Description
Under general supervision, performs moderately complex technical and para‑professional engineering duties; coordinates the allocation of resources to projects; performs a variety of technical work involving the design, construction, maintenance and management of projects.
- Supervises and/or prepares construction plans for small‑scale public works projects.
- Computes land, earthwork, and other quantities for assigned construction projects.
- Performs field and office work related to property or right‑of‑way.
- Performs routine checks of survey, parcel and final maps for compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, and survey practices.
- Inspects and evaluates various phases of construction, ensuring compliance with plans and specifications.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited two‑year college or technical school; and one to two years of progressively responsible related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and
Certifications:
Valid State Driver's License.
- Principles and practices of mathematics through trigonometry.
- Basic surveying terms and practices, basic principles and practices of civil engineering.
- All computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.
- Basic construction terms and practices, basic principles of drafting and plan layout.
- Using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
- Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with a minimum of direction.
- Communicating clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project plans.

- Salary:
County positions have a five‑step salary range. Increases, which are based on merit, are scheduled annually until the top step is reached. - Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance:
The County and the employee share the cost of an employee selected health care plan. - Holidays:
Mendocino observes 11 paid holidays per year. In addition, each employee is granted 24 hours of personal leave time upon the successful completion of the probationary period. - Life Insurance:
Coverage of $20,000 is provided by the County. - Sick Leave:
Paid sick leave accrues at the rate of 1.25 days per month, or 15 days per year. - Vacation:
Accrues at the rate of two weeks per year for three years. Three weeks per year after three years, four weeks after eight years and five weeks after 15 years. - Retirement:
Covered under Social Security and the 1937 act, both employees and the County pay into the retirement fund.
