Associate Dean - Student Affairs and Admissions, Student Affairs

The Associate Dean directs the activities in the Office of Student Affairs and Admissions or Office of Student Affairs (as designated by School) as they relate to student oversight and activities that support the student success.

Scope: Office of Student Affairs and Admissions, School of Medicine, or Office for Student Affairs, School of Health Professions or Office for Student Affairs, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, or Office for Student Affairs, School of Public and Population Health.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the direction of the student support and discipline programs of the School of Health Professions, including, but not limited to:
    • Recruitment & Admissions
    • Orientation
    • Student Progression
    • Graduation
  • Responsible for preparation, implementation, and direction of department staff tasks for the proper execution of the school's student orientation and commencement activities.
  • Represent the Office of Student Affairs on various committees, may include Curriculum Committee, Student Affairs Council, Council of Deans, Course and Clerkship Director Committees, and Student Fees Advisory Committee as appropriate.
  • Serve as a liaison to University Student Services, including Enrollment Services, Student Health, and Student Life.
  • Coordinate & implement the school's response to requests for ADA accommodations and Title IX compliance.
  • Organize and conduct activities related to Student academic counseling, Student career support, and student discipline.
  • Coordinate & implement student infractions & discipline.
  • Advise the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs on matters related to student oversight and activities that support the school’s curriculum.
  • Collaborate and share duties with other Associate/Assistant Dean(s) as they relate to recruiting, admissions and student support as appropriate and adhere to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Provide for regular staff evaluation and development.
  • Plan and manage budgets and resources responsibly and efficiently.
  • Develop marketing plans for new programs. Identify and pursue opportunities to enhance public relations through institutional, local, regional and national media reports, through public appearances and through social interaction.
  • Responsible for ensuring routine updates to SHP Student Affairs website.
  • Provide an environment that prepares students to become lifelong learners.
  • Cooperate with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs Staff in the planning and execution of recruitment, admissions, and retention activities.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (M.D., Ph.D., Ed.D.) plus five (5) years of experience in related discipline to include one (1) year of experience in academic administration or management.
  • Qualify for faculty appointment in the School Business Unit.
Preferred Qualifications

Previous health science experience as a course or clerkship director or in an office of student affairs.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent skills in communication, organization, and prioritization.
  • Ability to plan, organize and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to analyze/evaluate data and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify and balance a range of student needs and priorities.
  • Know and expect compliance with the University’s Student Honor Code. In particular, emphasize professionalism and the importance of ethical and responsible behavior.
  • Be familiar with system, institution and school wide policies and demonstrate and expect compliance with them.
