Job Description Under minimal supervision, the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) will oversee safety protocols and health standards for our custodial contract operations. As the SSHO, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, implementing best practices, and fostering a safety culture among our staff adhering to contractual requirements and company standards. This position is responsible for conducting employee safety training and consulting with project supervisors to develop safe work plans for all phases and tasks.

The SSHO will also be responsible for all administrative tasks related to the contract including conducting, completing, and accurately filling all recurring and annual safety reports.

Job Skills Develop and implement safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations

Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards

Collaborate with site managers and supervisors to address safety concerns and provide recommendations for corrective actions

Organize and conduct safety training sessions for staff on topics such as proper chemical handling, equipment safety, and emergency procedures

Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; prepare detailed reports and recommend preventive measures

Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incidents

Stay updated on changes in safety regulations and industry best practices; implement necessary changes to ensure continuous improvement

Act as the primary or alternate point of contact for safety-related communications and inquiries from both internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies

Promote a safety-conscious culture by encouraging open communication and participation in safety initiatives among all employees

May be required to prepare project Safety Plans and/or Activity Hazard Analysis for each definable feature of work on the project

Working Conditions:

Frequent exposure to heat, sun for extended periods of time.

Possible exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, and various infectious diseases.

Exposure to wildlife.

Move and lift between 25-50+ lbs.

Possible exposure to uncomfortable noise levels and vibration of the body or extremities.

Required Experience & Qualifications At least five (5) years of continuous construction or general industry safety experience in safety programs, managing safety programs or processes, or conducting hazard analyses and developing safety controls. At a minimum, must have completed the instructor-signed OSHA 30-hour training card (or course completion if within 90 days of having completed the training and card has not yet been issued.

This may be for general industry or construction industry safety experience or a combination of both that satisfies the years of experience requirement.

As an equivalent, formal construction or industry safety and health training covering the subjects of the OSHA 30-hour course and the EM 385-1-1 applicable to the work to be performed and given by qualified instructors. If the SSHO has a Third-Party, Nationally Accredited (ANSI or National Commission for Certifying Agencies - NCCA) SOH-related certification, only 4 years of experience is needed

Maintain competency through having taken 8 hours of documented formal, on-line, or self-study safety and health-related coursework every year for the last five years. Examples of continuing education activities that meet this requirement are: writing an article, teaching a class, reading/writing professional articles, ongoing safety education and training classes, including post-secondary institutions, attendance/participation in professional societies/meetings, etc Comprehensive understanding of CFR 1926.20 (General Safety and Health Provisions) highly preferred

In-depth knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines, including chemical handling and equipment safety

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization

Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously

Currently hold or willing to obtain certification in First Aid and CPR-AED by a nationally accredited body within 30 days of employment

Be able to pass a background check, drug test, and screening requirements as directed by the contractor and company standards
