The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Crime Reduction Unit is a proactive law enforcement unit utilized to deter, prevent, and address criminal activity in specific areas of interest throughout Galveston County. The Crime Reduction Unit primarily focuses on Violent Crimes, Gang Activity, Firearms Offenses, Narcotics Activity, and other crime trends that negatively affect the safety of the citizens of Galveston County. This position requires an experienced understanding of law enforcement procedures, a proactive mindset, the ability to work under pressure in high‑stress situations, and the ability to work and collaborate with other divisions/agencies.
RESPONSIBILITIESThe Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Crime Reduction Unit is responsible for developing and processing predictive crime analytics as well as processing real‑time crime information to rapidly plan and implement enforcement actions/operations. The primary focus and goal of these actions/operations is to deter, prevent, and address criminal activity in specific areas of interest.
Identify, verify, monitor, track, and suppress areas with high violent crime rates or areas where active criminal intelligence indicates a high probability of violent crime occurring.
Identify, verify, monitor, track, and suppress areas that criminal intelligence and statistics show the regular occurrence of similar criminal acts.
Identify, verify, monitor, track, and suppress the growth of gang activities, and monitoring offenders that carry guns during the commission of a crime.
Identifying, verifying, monitoring, tracking, and addressing persons and places that are identified as possessing, using, or providing firearms that are or likely to be used in criminal acts.
Receive, verify, monitor, and address complaints received from the citizens of Galveston County regarding crimes committed within their communities.
