About

the Division of Medical Oncology

The Division of Oncology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is a dynamic and expanding program within the Department of Medicine, dedicated to excellence in patient care, research, and education. Faculty provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient cancer care across UTMB’s four hospitals – Galveston, League City, Clear Lake, and Angleton Danbury – offering advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services, multidisciplinary management of complex malignancies, and participation in innovative clinical trials.

The Division is deeply committed to advancing cancer care through research, education, and collaboration, working closely with surgical, radiation, and palliative care teams to deliver compassionate, patient-centered treatment tailored to each individual’s needs. Our ACGME-accredited Medical Oncology Fellowship Program trains nine fellows across three years, offering a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum supported by dedicated faculty mentors and a wide range of clinical and research experiences.

The Division also plays an active role in medical student and resident education, contributing significantly to UTMB’s academic and training missions.

Job Duties
  • Effectively manages multi-disciplinary, multi-investigator research projects by collecting research data, developing project related documents, and updating project status reports/tracking systems.
  • Serves as the principal project coordinator for facilitation of the research project and primary contact for administration, regulatory/compliance officials, UTMB’s Office of Sponsored Programs and sponsors as appropriate.
  • Follows and supports the guidelines established by the institution and the sponsor. Complies with and helps enforce project specific policies and procedures.
  • Participates in research project team activities such as team meetings, sponsor communications, report generation, etc.
  • Tracks resource utilization and makes recommendations to management regarding efficient resource utilization.
  • Takes initiative to share ideas and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Effectively communicates relevant research project information to superiors.
  • Has a general working knowledge of the technical details of assigned research projects.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Performs related duties as required.
