Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the following:

  • Responsible for the safe execution of all logistics, transportation, warehousing, and material movement activities supporting ship newbuilding and major marine construction programs in accordance with the company's overall safety goals, objectives and policies.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate international and domestic logistics for major vessel equipment, machinery, systems, components, and materials from suppliers to Gulf Copper facilities and designated Gulf Coast ports and delivery locations.
  • Develop and execute logistics plans for major equipment shipments originating in Europe and other international locations, including ocean freight, port handling, customs coordination, inland transportation, heavy haul, and final delivery to the shipyard.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, ocean carriers, customs brokers, port terminals, stevedores, trucking companies, heavy-haul contractors, and other logistics service providers to ensure safe and timely delivery of equipment and materials.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive shipment tracking and expediting system covering all vendor shipments originating throughout the United States and globally.
  • Monitor purchase order shipping requirements, promised ship dates, actual ship dates, vessel or flight information, estimated arrival dates, customs status, inland transportation, and final receipt for all critical shipments.
  • Provide accurate and timely shipment status reporting to the Supply Chain Manager – Newbuilding, Project Management, Production Planning, Engineering, Production, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify transportation, customs, port, carrier, supplier, weather, or other logistics risks that could affect project schedules and develop mitigation and recovery plans before schedule impact occurs.
  • Coordinate closely with Procurement and Expediting personnel to ensure supplier packaging, preservation, marking, documentation, export preparation, and shipment readiness meet purchase order and project requirements.
  • Ensure international shipments comply with applicable import/export, customs, tariff, documentation, security, hazardous-material, environmental, and transportation requirements.
  • Coordinate customs clearance and import documentation with qualified customs brokers and internal personnel to minimize delays, demurrage, detention, storage charges, and other avoidable logistics costs.
  • Plan transportation for oversized, overweight, high-value, fragile, or specialized shipbuilding equipment, including route surveys, permits, escorts, lifting plans, specialized trailers, barges, cranes, and other handling requirements as applicable.
  • Develop logistics schedules aligned with the newbuilding Integrated Master Schedule, production sequence, required-on-site dates, installation dates, and major construction milestones.
  • Manage receiving operations to ensure incoming equipment and material are properly identified, documented, inspected, entered into applicable ERP and inventory systems, and routed to the correct storage or production location.
  • Direct all newbuilding warehousing activities, including warehouse layout, controlled storage, outdoor laydown areas, preservation, material identification, segregation, inventory accuracy, security, and material custody.
  • Ensure major equipment and long-lead material are preserved and stored in accordance with manufacturer, purchase order, quality, and project requirements until released for installation.
  • Direct internal yard logistics supporting newbuilding operations, including material movement, staging, kitting, point-of-use delivery, crane coordination, forklifts, transporters, trailers, and movement of equipment between warehouses, laydown areas, shops, blocks, and vessels.
  • Develop material-flow and staging plans that support Block Steel and Hot Outfitting, Cold Outfitting, erection, testing, commissioning, and other production activities without creating congestion or unnecessary material handling.
  • Coordinate with Production Planning and shop-floor planners to ensure equipment, material, kits, and consumables are delivered to the required work location in accordance with weekly and daily production priorities.
  • Maintain accurate inventory location and material status information so project and production personnel can readily determine the location, condition, custody, and availability of required equipment and materials.
  • Establish performance metrics for international and domestic shipment status, on-time delivery, customs clearance, freight cost, warehouse accuracy, material damage, preservation, and internal material delivery performance.
  • Monitor freight, port, customs, warehousing, heavy-haul, and material-handling costs and implement cost-control measures consistent with project schedule and equipment protection requirements.
