Job Description

Position Summary:

The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government agencies that support the organization’s mission and programs. This role plays a critical part in generating funding to support ongoing operations, new initiatives, and special projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Grant Research & Strategy
    • Identify potential grant opportunities through research of funding databases and sources.
    • Maintain a grant calendar and ensure timely submission of proposals and reports.
  • Proposal Development
    • Write compelling and tailored grant proposals, LOIs, and supporting documents.
    • Collaborate with program staff to gather accurate and relevant content.
    • Develop budgets and project timelines in collaboration with finance and program teams.
  • Reporting & Stewardship
    • Track progress of submitted grants and respond to follow-up questions.
    • Prepare and submit timely grant reports to funders.
    • Maintain relationships with foundation officers and other funding contacts.
  • Data Management
    • Maintain detailed records of grant applications, outcomes, and funder communications.
    • Update donor management systems as needed.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Work closely with development, finance, and program teams to ensure alignment across proposals.
    • Participate in strategic planning around funding goals and organizational needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field (Master’s a plus).
  • Minimum [2–5] years of experience in grant writing and nonprofit fundraising.
  • Proven track record of securing grants from private and public funding sources.
  • Excellent written communication, editing, and research skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.
  • Familiarity with grant databases (e.g., Foundation Directory Online) and donor CRMs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Understanding of nonprofit financials and budgeting processes preferred.
