Job Description
Position Summary:
The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government agencies that support the organization’s mission and programs. This role plays a critical part in generating funding to support ongoing operations, new initiatives, and special projects.
- Grant Research & Strategy
- Identify potential grant opportunities through research of funding databases and sources.
- Maintain a grant calendar and ensure timely submission of proposals and reports.
- Proposal Development
- Write compelling and tailored grant proposals, LOIs, and supporting documents.
- Collaborate with program staff to gather accurate and relevant content.
- Develop budgets and project timelines in collaboration with finance and program teams.
- Reporting & Stewardship
- Track progress of submitted grants and respond to follow-up questions.
- Prepare and submit timely grant reports to funders.
- Maintain relationships with foundation officers and other funding contacts.
- Data Management
- Maintain detailed records of grant applications, outcomes, and funder communications.
- Update donor management systems as needed.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with development, finance, and program teams to ensure alignment across proposals.
- Participate in strategic planning around funding goals and organizational needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field (Master’s a plus).
- Minimum [2–5] years of experience in grant writing and nonprofit fundraising.
- Proven track record of securing grants from private and public funding sources.
- Excellent written communication, editing, and research skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.
- Familiarity with grant databases (e.g., Foundation Directory Online) and donor CRMs.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Understanding of nonprofit financials and budgeting processes preferred.
