Job Summary
The Oncology Nurse Clinician delivers proficient patient care to adult cancer patients in various settings, including outpatient clinics and infusion centers where chemotherapy is administered. The clinician will use the nursing process to perform patient assessments, formulate nursing diagnoses, establish goals, plan and implement interventions, and evaluate patient care outcomes. The role collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide assessment and therapeutic management of patient and family needs, manages unexpected or emergency situations, and serves as a resource for LVNs and Medical Assistants.
Responsibilities- Conducts comprehensive patient assessments, including physical examinations, psychosocial evaluations, and medication history.
- Provides consultation and coordination throughout diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up; communicates with patients to schedule procedures, provides preparation instructions, and follows up with referring physicians on procedure status.
- Facilitates dose modification by assessing the patient, reviewing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physicians regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management.
- Administers all medications/blood products using the correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique.
- Administers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other complex IV medications, adhering to strict safety protocols and sterile techniques.
- Monitors patients for adverse reactions to treatment and implements appropriate interventions.
- Educates patients and their families on disease management and the actions and side effects of medication or treatment.
- Assists patients in finding support through available community resources.
- Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Two (2) years of Clinical RN experience, prior experience in oncology.
- Active RN license or valid temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Texas; permanent license must be obtained within 90 days.
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Actual salary commensurate with experience.
Work ScheduleFull-time, 40 hours per week.
