Skills Lab Coordinator
The Skills Lab Coordinator's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing the daily operations of the nursing skills laboratories and ensuring students have appropriate instructional resources, supplies, and supplemental laboratory instruction. This position is responsible for supporting simulation faculty with the development, setup, and implementation of simulation scenarios. The Skills Lab Coordinator works with the Director of Nursing and does not independently teach or evaluate students.
This is a non-exempt level position.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support and abide by all rules, regulations, and guidelines of the nursing program, LIT, and serve as an appropriate role model for students and employees at all times
- Provide excellent service on behalf of LIT and the nursing program by responding to all inquiries from students, faculty, staff, administration, and external partners
- Maintains Texas RN licensure and required credentials.
- Maintains knowledge of the Texas Nursing Practice Act rules and regulations.
- Treats students and faculty with dignity, respect, and provide timely responses to inquiry.
- Maintains safety principles in labs and simulation environments.
- Remains current regarding relevant clinical issues and teaching methods appropriate for nursing laboratory education.
- Coordinates setup of clinical skills practice laboratories for nursing program.
- Assists Nursing faculty with coordinating laboratory instruction and skills validations.
- Serves as a resource for nursing students utilizing the clinical skills laboratory during scheduled open practice, remediation, and independent skills development, providing guidance and support to promote safe practice and clinical competency.
- Provides individualized mentoring, academic coaching, tutoring, and skills remediation for students identified or referred by nursing faculty as needing additional support, in collaboration with nursing faculty, to strengthen clinical competencies, reinforce didactic concepts, and promote student success and progression.
- Collaborates with nursing simulation faculty and/or Nursing Simulation Coordinator in developing new simulated laboratory experiences.
- Assists simulation faculty and /or Simulation Coordinator with implementation of simulation scenarios.
- Mentors nursing students in professional development through appropriate role modeling and critical thinking.
- Assists students with computer software used in assigned laboratories.
- Maintains an inventory of laboratory equipment and software.
- Collaborates with nursing faculty to identify needed equipment, software, supportive services, and other laboratory resources and communicating those needs to appropriate faculty and the Director of Nursing.
- Coordinates the ordering and storage of laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Supports grant-funding requests by obtaining vendor quotes and collecting necessary information.
- Collaborates with faculty and the Director to develop and revise policies and procedures governing safe use of equipment and laboratory space.
- Assists with facilitating and overseeing maintenance of simulators and other laboratory equipment.
- Coordinates cleaning of skills and simulation laboratories and its equipment.
- Participates in Nursing Program Association meetings, professional development, recruitment activities, and committees necessary to further development and growth of simulation in the nursing program
- Performs other assigned responsibilities as requested from the Program Director.

- Current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas
- Bachelor's degree in nursing
- Maintains current knowledge, clinical expertise, and safety in nursing, clinical skills, and simulation.
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities required for organizing and facilitating implementation of simulations
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Effective written and verbal professional communication skills
- Work within the mission, vision, goals, and philosophical framework of LIT and the nursing program
