PHYSICAL EFFORTConstant physical effort is exerted as required to operate equipment. Operators must change the position of the attachments often and rapidly to adjust to the changing conditions of more difficult earth surfaces. Increased physical exertion when reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls when operating or adjusting heavy equipment and attachments due to the mass and size of the components.
Work is performed carefully, requiring attention in hand, foot and eye coordination and acute depth perception in setting and attaching equipment. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Because of the location of some of the controls and attachments, the operators are frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions.
Exerts considerable effort when using a shovel or broom to repair, or clean a facility. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing 50 pounds and occasionally heavier. May occasionally lift objects up to 100 pounds, although most heavy lifting is done with mechanical assistance.
The operator pays close attention to the attachments and may result in less time to concentrate on the speed and direction of the vehicle. As a result, there is more danger of tipping or overturning the vehicle, especially when working on steeper banks and side slopes. Work is performed outside, in all types of weather. Work is often performed using heavy equipment.
The incumbent occupies an open driver's seat or platform, on simple terrain types such as rolling hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forests. Operating larger/complicated equipment in more difficult circumstances increases the risk of injury. Injury may occur due to…
