General Description
The purpose of this class is to assist in the repair and maintenance of department vehicles and equipment.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Repairs and overhauls truck brakes and clutches.
- Repairs hydraulic and electrical systems on heavy road equipment and diesel vehicles.
- Performs transmission and engine repairs.
- Performs diagnostics, troubleshoots, and makes repairs.
- Performs on-the-road repairs of disabled road equipment and vehicles.
- Operates road equipment and vehicles for testing purposes.
- Maintains records of repair work done.
- Repairs gas-operated small engine equipment.
- Repairs all vehicles and equipment.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Requires six months of automotive repair experience or closely related experience.
Physical Demands/Work EnvironmentPhysical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
The work is typically performed in a service center occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery and chemicals.
The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
Emergency Preparedness Tier Level: 3
Special Certifications and LicensesMust possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Requires Texas vehicle inspector license.
Requires FEMA 100, 200, 700 and 800 certifications.
