Position Overview / DutiesWork independently, exercising judgment and initiative to determine the need for and extent of repairs in order to maintain equipment in continuous operation to the fullest extent possible.
- Determine and maintain current and adequate spare parts inventory sufficient to maintain the floating plant in good operating condition under normal circumstances.
- Maintain current and accurate records of operations, malfunctions, repairs, modifications, etc., and enter pertinent information into the computer to continuously update data.
- Assist supervisor in preparation of schedules and budget for maintenance and major fleet repairs for all Maintenance Section equipment.
- Put the operation and maintenance records into the COE's automated equipment maintenance system (FEM).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position will be filled at either the XF-09, XF-10 or XF-11 grade level. If selected at the XF-09 or XF-10, the position has non-competitive promotion potential to the full performance XF-11 grade level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials, that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:
I have the ability to perform common tasks of a Marine Machinery Mechanic. I can install, maintain, repair, overhaul diesel engines and other mechanical and electrical systems aboard boats/vessels.
XF-5334-10:
Minimum Qualifications:
I have the ability to perform some tasks of a Marine Machinery Mechanic. I can install, maintain, repair, overhaul diesel and gasoline outboard engines and other mechanical and electrical systems aboard boats/vessels. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
XF-5334-11:
Minimum Qualifications:
I have the ability to perform most tasks of a Marine Machinery Mechanic. I can provide troubleshooting, diagnosing, planning and completing projects or work orders involving major systems, diesel engines and gasoline outboard engines, and other related mechanical and electrical systems aboard boats/vessels. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Demand: This position requires continuous physical activity in handling light to average weight objects (50 pounds) and requires standing most or all of the time.
Working ConditionsEnvironmental Conditions: This position's work exposes the employee to environmental conditions such as odors, smoke, fumes, damp and drafty conditions, weather conditions, dirt, dust and noise.
Exposure to Hazards: This position's work is subject to normal mishaps that may lead to minor injury causing no loss of time from work, or a loss of time not exceeding 5 days. Health hazards are negligible or absent.
Incumbent must comply with safety regulations, occupational safety and health standards, and other safety directives and orders.
Other Requirements- Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in accomplishment of assigned duties.
