Galveston, TX Employment Options:
Direct Hire or Contract Assignment
Quest Energy Group is recruiting experienced Ship Fitters / Plate Fitters for a shipyard in Galveston supporting vessel and offshore rig refit, repair, and modification projects. These opportunities offer long-term work, with both direct-hire and contract assignments available.
We’re looking for skilled craftspeople who can read structural drawings, lay out material, and fit steel plate and structural components for installation and welding.
This is a structural ship fitting / plate fitting role. Pipe fitting experience alone does not meet the requirements.
What You’ll Do- Lay out, measure, mark, cut, and fit steel plate and structural members using drawings, specifications, and field measurements.
- Support the repair, replacement, and modification of hull sections, decks, bulkheads, foundations, stiffeners, and other vessel and rig structures.
- Read and interpret structural fabrication drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
- Prepare edges and fit-up surfaces, align components, and verify dimensions and tolerances before welding.
- Use appropriate cutting, grinding, fitting, and tack-welding equipment within your qualifications and shipyard procedures.
- Work closely with welders, supervisors, and other trades to complete assigned work safely and accurately.
- Follow shipyard safety requirements, including applicable hot-work, confined-space, and fall-protection procedures.
- Previous experience as a Ship Fitter, Plate Fitter, or Structural Fitter, preferably in a shipyard or marine fabrication environment.
- Hands‑on experience fitting steel plate and structural components; vessel or offshore rig repair experience is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work from structural drawings and take accurate field measurements.
- Working knowledge of fit‑up, alignment, joint preparation, and fabrication tolerances.
- Ability to safely use the tools and equipment associated with structural fitting.
- Dependability, attention to workmanship, and the ability to coordinate with a crew.
- Ability to perform essential job duties in an active shipyard environment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Long‑term vessel and rig refit work in Galveston.
- Direct‑hire and contract opportunities.
- Hands‑on structural work across marine repair and modification projects.
