On behalf of our client, Trailhead Development Company Inc. (TDC), we are seeking a passionate, proactive, and organized candidate for the immediate opening of Social Enterprise Director in Parson’s Pond, located on the Great Northern Peninsula in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Who We Are:

The Trailhead Development Company Inc. (TDC) is a newly incorporated not-for-profit organization with the funding and mandate to advance a comprehensive, innovative workforce development strategy for the benefit of the Town of Parson’s Pond and the region.

Our purpose is to create several market-driven attractions within Parson’s Pond; purposeful attractions that draw the attention of the adventure-seeking tourist looking to begin a journey along the Great Coastal Trail. Our efforts are intended to be scalable and to create workforce development through training and skills arising from the operation of targeted, social enterprises. The goal is to leverage significant private sector investment in accommodations, food and hospitality services, as well as direct and indirect workforce participation within the cultural sector and the outfitting sector, including specialized services such as equipment rentals and other attributable benefits once proof of concept has been established.

The TDC project will create training models and opportunities to ensure that a highly skilled workforce is in place to accomplish potential. Projects are intended to be scalable to other community investments, both inside and outside the community of Parson’s Pond.

In our early phase, TDC, in partnership with the Central Development Association (CDA), will oversee and facilitate the construction of a 28-kilometre Demonstration Trail from Parson’s Pond to Daniel’s Harbour on the Great Northern Peninsula.

The Opportunity:

This is a rare opportunity for a highly motivated individual to help improve the sustainability of rural communities on the Northern Peninsula. With a strong financial footing and a board of highly experienced individuals providing support, the successful candidate will be able to truly make a difference.

The Role:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Social Enterprise Director will play a pivotal role in supporting and nurturing the future development of social impact initiatives within the organization. This role requires a dynamic and strategic leader with a deep understanding of social responsibility. The Director of Social Enterprise will collaborate with various stakeholders, including internal teams, external partners and community organizations and members to drive sustainable and positive change while ensuring the financial viability of the organization’s social enterprise initiatives.

The position requires a highly motivated, independent, self-directed individual to support the organization’s initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social enterprise strategy and revenue-generating opportunities that are aligned with the organization’s missions and values.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including employees, customers and community partners.
  • Provide leadership guidance to teams working on social enterprise projects through recruitment, training and supervision.
  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with external organizations, NGOs and government agencies to create opportunities for social impact collaborations.
  • Develop and manage budgets for social enterprise initiatives, ensuring financial accountability and sustainability in consultation with the Executive Director.
  • Ensure that all social enterprise activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, agency and health and safety policies, and ethical standards.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with social enterprise activities/initiatives
  • Establish metrics, guidelines, and standards by which profitability and effectiveness can be evaluated for existing enterprises and identify opportunities for improvement while maintaining regular updates and supporting organizational reporting associated with social enterprise initiatives.
