Position: Maintenance Assistant Full-Time

Maintenance Assistant Garden City Health Care Center Pay Range: $17.50-$18.00 per hour

Garden City Health Care Center is seeking a dependable, safety-conscious, and hardworking Maintenance Assistant to join our team. This position helps maintain the facility, grounds, and equipment in a safe, efficient, and attractive condition for our residents, visitors, and employees. The ideal candidate has general maintenance knowledge, takes pride in quality work, and is comfortable completing a variety of indoor and outdoor assignments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow established preventive-maintenance schedules, daily assignments, and department procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs involving plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, plastering, painting, mechanical systems, and general facility upkeep as directed.
  • Maintain facility grounds, parking areas, walkways, and driveways by sweeping, trimming, cleaning, and completing other assigned tasks.
  • Inspect the facility and equipment for damage, safety hazards, malformations, or necessary repairs.
  • Report equipment breakdowns and maintenance concerns to the supervisor promptly.
  • Replace burned-out light bulbs, including overhead, fluorescent, exit, and resident call lights.
  • Clean windows, screens, equipment, maintenance areas, and other assigned locations.
  • Assist with servicing heating and cooling systems according to manufacturer instructions and facility procedures.
  • Complete scheduled and unscheduled maintenance assignments as directed.
  • Coordinate maintenance services with Nursing and other departments when working in resident-care areas.
  • Notify residents before moving personal possessions when necessary to complete an assignment.
  • Replenish maintenance supplies and keep work areas organized.
  • Clean and properly store tools, equipment, and supplies at the end of each shift.
  • Follow established safety precautions when using equipment, tools, and chemicals.
  • Assist with lifting or moving equipment and supplies as directed.
  • Report all accidents, incidents, hazards, or safety concerns during the shift in which they occur.
  • Attend departmental meetings, staff meetings, and required training.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident and facility information, including protected health information.
  • Report known or suspected unauthorized disclosures of confidential information.
  • Assist during emergency situations and resident evacuations when required.
  • Perform additional maintenance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a tenth-grade education required; high school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous maintenance, construction, facilities, or building-repair experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, painting, and grounds-maintenance work is helpful.
  • Ability to use tools, equipment, and supplies safely and appropriately.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and accept constructive feedback.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and solve practical problems.
  • Professional and respectful communication with residents, families, coworkers, visitors, and outside personnel.
  • Ability to organize assignments and manage time effectively.
  • Willingness to learn new maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Dependable attendance and a cooperative, team-oriented attitude.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Requirements
  • This position regularly requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, speaking, hearing, reading, bending, and performing hands-on maintenance tasks.
  • The employee must be able to lift or move at least 25 pounds and assist with heavier equipment or supplies as directed.
  • The position may involve indoor and outdoor work, the use of maintenance tools and equipment, and exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels.
