Role DescriptionThe School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting K-8 students to and from Anser Public Charter School and school-related activities in Garden City, is an on-site role that includes conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections, following assigned routes and schedules, and operating the bus in compliance with all traffic laws and school policies. Day-to-day tasks involve assisting students as they board and exit the bus, monitoring student behavior to ensure a safe and respectful environment, and communicating clearly with school staff and families as needed.
The driver maintains cleanliness of the vehicle, reports any mechanical issues, and completes required documentation and incident reports. This position also requires participation in safety drills and ongoing training to uphold high standards of student safety and professionalism.
- Strong vehicle operation skills, including experience with larger vehicles such as Truck Driving, and possession of a valid CDL Class B (with appropriate school bus endorsements as required).
- Demonstrated Defensive Driving skills and a solid understanding of traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Effective Communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with students, families, and school staff.
- Customer Service skills with a focus on patience, respect, and creating a positive experience for students and families.
- Clean driving record and ability to pass required background checks and drug screenings.
- Ability to manage student behavior calmly and fairly, and to respond appropriately in emergency or unexpected situations.
- Reliability in adhering to schedules, punctuality, and consistent attendance.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training related to student safety, first aid, and school policies.
