American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a MS/Tele Float Pool position in Kansas, requiring 2 years of MS-Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple facilities within a 60-mile zone.
Requirements- Active KS RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of MS-Tele experience within the last 3 years
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required
- Candidate's permanent address must be at least 60 miles from the Garden City, KS zone center to qualify for travel rates
- Acute care setting with no fixed home base facility — travelers float across Zone 4, which is centered around Garden City, KS and includes facilities up to 54 miles from the zone center
- Float pool covers multiple unit types including General MS-Tele, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Obs
- May be assigned to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds within skillset), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
- Adult and geriatric patient population with common diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6 based on acuity
- Nurse aides available on unit
- Respiratory therapy equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP in use on unit
- Heparin drip titration required
- Designated charge nurse on each unit who typically does not carry a patient assignment, though night shift charge nurses may take a small assignment when needed
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
- 13-week contract
- EMR:
Epic (experience preferred) - Alaris pump experience preferred
- Travelers are expected to float throughout the full Zone 4 area (up to 60 miles from Garden City, KS center); it is the traveler's responsibility to secure housing that makes this feasible
- Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance and follow one of two formats: (A) assigned to a single facility for the week with possible in-facility floating, or (B) Just-In-Time (JIT) assignment communicated 1–2 hours before shift start
- Shift assignments are managed by leadership on a 6-week schedule; travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill scheduling gaps
- All time-off requests must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment
- May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
- Low-census standby is rare
- Clinicians must be in-state for the week of orientation, even if initial modules are completed remotely (12-hour orientation)
- Prior neuro experience preferred
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Interview is conducted with the Med Sol Clinical Team — no unit manager interview involved
