Key Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to residents.
- Supervise the day‑to‑day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and community policies.
- Maintain the highest level of quality care in accordance with current rules, guidelines, and requirements from the RCC or Unit Manager.
- Ensure all nursing personnel adhere to written policies, procedures, and job descriptions; conduct meetings to plan shift services, programs, and activities.
- Cooperate with resident services to coordinate nursing services and preserve the resident’s total care regimen.
- Participate in community surveys and inspections by authorized government agencies; review and update resident discharge plans as needed.
- Interpret and communicate departmental policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies.
- Administer professional nursing services including catheterization, tube feedings, suction, dressing changes, colostomy care, blood draws, ranges of motion, and end‑of‑life support; perform vital signs and routine monitoring per the care plan.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
- Complete administrative duties such as medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, and other documentation in accordance with established policies.
- Encourage physicians to review treatment plans and record their orders and progress notes.
- Receive telephone orders from physicians and transcribe them onto the Physicians' Order Form.
- Chart nursing notes in an informative, descriptive manner reflecting the care provided and the resident’s response.
- Complete accident/incident reports following community policy and submit them to the RCC or Unit Manager.
- Record new or changed diet orders and forward information to the Dietary Department.
- Perform routine charting duties and notify the Nurse Supervisor of staffing needs when scheduled personnel fail to report to work.
- Report absentee call‑ins, no‑call no‑show incidents, and staff staffing needs to the RCC and/or Scheduling Coordinator.
- Evaluate department workforce, recommend staffing adjustments, develop work assignments, and assist in assignment completion.
- Make rounds of the unit/shift to ensure staff are performing their responsibilities as expected.
- Maintain a good working rapport with coworkers and other departments, review complaints and grievances, and report them to the RCC and/or Unit Manager.
- Record occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals per community policies.
- Monitor personnel to ensure adherence to safety regulations when using equipment and supplies; recommend equipment and supply needs to the Nurse Supervisor.
- Review care plans daily to ensure appropriate care is rendered and maintain confidentiality of all resident care information.

- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Must be willing to work beyond normal hours, including weekends and holidays when necessary.

- Must perform essential functions with, or without, reasonable accommodation.
- Must utilize transfer/gait belts or obtain assistance when lifting/carrying objects over 25 lbs; awareness of routine body movements required.
