Position: Laborer I - Nassau Community College
Job Description:

The Facilities Department of Nassau Community College (NCC) is seeking a Laborer I to perform a wide variety of unskilled manual tasks throughout the campus. Under direct supervision, the work is routine and repetitive and requires limited use of judgment.

In addition, the Laborer I will:

* Sweep streets, gutters, and alleys and load refuse into trucks.

* Mow lawns, plants bulbs, shrubs, and trees, spread fertilizers, dig ditches, clean culverts and catch basins, and shovel snow.

* Load and unload equipment and supplies.

* Participate in sorting, stacking, or delivering materials, supplies, parcels, mail, or equipment.

* Perform unskilled construction work including mixing of concrete and assist in building rough cement forms and assist with indoor and outside painting.

* Assist with road construction, paving, and other activities, including asphalt patching, grading, and painting lines.

* Operate relevant motorized equipment necessary to job assignment.

* Erect signs, posts, and fences.

* Assist in taking pressure, temperature, and gauge readings.

* Assist in the general maintenance of equipment in sewerage or power plants.

Requirements:

The Laborer I should have:

* Ability to learn the care and use of standard tools and equipment used in manual work activities.

* Ability to follow oral instructions.

* Good physical condition and health in order to perform manual labor for extended periods.

Additional Information:

The Laborer I position is a Grade 5, non-competitive Civil Service title. The starting salary is $34,961 per year. After one (1) year, the salary will increase to $46,337. Benefits include NYS retirement plan, health, dental, optical insurance, vacation, sick, and personal leave.

Candidates must be a current resident of Nassau County for at least one (1) year.
