Senior Accountant

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Accountant/Accounting Manager to join one of our nonprofit clients in Garden Grove, CA. Our client is focused on preventing and ending poverty by stabilizing families in crisis. Helping them meet basic needs and supporting long-term self-sufficiency. This role will start as a contract opportunity and is required to be onsite five (5) days a week.
In this role we are looking for someone who is going to be a hands on, senior level individual who can both execute and provide guidance. The individual will act as a strong accounting leadership person to a smaller accounting organization and will receive support from a fractional CFO and Senior Controller.
The organization is complex, with multiple programs and funding sources. This role will be involved in:

• Allocating expenses across multiple funds

• Handling project based and program based funding

• Allocating payroll and expenses by percentage to specific funds
Additional Responsibilities will include:

• Prepare, review, and approve complex journal entries

• Enter and approve journal entries as needed

• Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations

• Manage general ledger activity and cash receipts

• Serve as "eyes and ears on the ground" for the accounting function

• Assess current accounting processes and confidently identify what is working and what is not

• Speak up, challenge legacy processes, and recommend better ways of doing things

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of accounting experience (senior level preferred)

• Experience preparing, reviewing, and posting complex journal entries

• Strong balance sheet reconciliation experience

• Deep understanding of general ledger accounting

• Experience working in fast moving or imperfect environments

• Proven ability to communicate clearly and respond promptly (responsiveness is critical)

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Nonprofit/fund accounting experience

• Financial Edge NXT experience

• Experience supporting complex funding structures and allocations
