Under close supervision, the Senior Engineering Technician / Engineering Technician performs civil engineering office and fieldwork involving surveying, drafting, design, and inspection.

- Uses computer and manual drafting instruments to perform or assist in research, computing, drafting, checking, surveying and field work for the preparation of plans, designs, estimates, and specifications for design, construction, maintenance and operation of engineering projects;
- Calculates distances, angles, areas, stations, traverses and closures; plots profiles and cross sections;
- Inspects public works construction for conformance to design and specifications and assists in performing fire flow test;
- Maintains GIS maps and records;
- Assists in engineering planning, surveying, mapping and design work;
- Reviews and processes tenant improvements, development application plans, and performs water and sewer permit inspections;
- Makes rough layouts, tracings, drawings and title sheets;
- Compiles field notes and computes grades, prepares sketches and permanent plans, diagrams and maps for public works projects;
- Calculates fire flow, pressure, distances, angles, areas, stations, traverses and closures;
- Lays out, draws, inks and traces maps;
- Plots profiles and cross sections;
- Operates the water and wastewater computer flow model;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

SENIOR ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN ($6,217 - $9,185 monthly): Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the G.E.D. (General Educational Development) exam, including completion of courses in algebra, geometry, trigonometry and mechanical drawing and three (3) years of experience in design drafting and/or survey work is required.
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN ($5,630 - $8,318 monthly): Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the G.E.D. (General Educational Development) exam, including completion of courses in algebra, geometry, trigonometry and mechanical drawing and one (1) year of experience in design drafting and/or survey work is required.
