The City of Garden Grove Police Department has 182 sworn staff including a chief, a deputy chief, two captains, seven lieutenants, 23 sergeants, and 148 officers. Officers can specialize after experience.
Essential DutiesUnder general supervision, officers perform law enforcement and crime prevention work within a community policing philosophy; control traffic flow; enforce state and local laws and ordinances; and conduct investigative work.
Requirements- Education: Graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED.
- Experience: Currently employed as a sworn peace officer in a California city, county, state, or other public agency.
- Certifications: Valid California POST Basic certificate (or higher). Attach a copy to your application.
- Physical Condition: Must be in excellent condition and physically capable of performing all tasks required of a police officer.
- Vision: Bilateral vision at least 20/100, correctable to 20/30. No evidence of color blindness.
- Hearing: Hearing aids not acceptable; disqualified for specified hearing loss thresholds.
- Work Authorization: Eligible for employment in the United States under federal law.
- Driver's License & Driving Record: Valid California Class C license with acceptable driving record (≤3 DMV points in last 5 years, ≤1 DUI in last 10 years).

Memory, judgment, operating vehicles, radio procedures, report writing, effective communication. - Bilingual
Skills:
Spanish, Vietnamese, or Korean desirable. - Other Requirements: Legally authorized to carry a firearm and no felony convictions.
