CNC MACHINIST II

Position Summary

The CNC Machinist II is an intermediate-level machinist responsible for independently operating CNC machines, performing basic setups, adjusting and changing all tooling without supervision, troubleshooting routine machine and process issues, and supporting the training of new hires.

This role requires strong technical judgment, ownership of assigned equipment, and proactive communication to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate CNC machines in accordance with established programs, work instructions, and safety procedures

• Perform basic CNC machine setups, including tooling changes, offsets, and fixture adjustments

• Select proper material, tool holders, and tooling for assigned jobs in accordance with work instructions and engineering requirements

• Change all tooling independently and without supervision

• Adjust tooling and offsets to maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality

• Troubleshoot routine machine, tooling, and dimensional issues on assigned equipment

• Recognize improper machine functioning and take appropriate corrective action within scope; escalate complex issues to CNC Machinist III, CNC Machinist Lead, or Supervisor

• Use pass down sheets when face to face shift changeover is not feasible. Participate in face-to-face problem-solving meetings to communicate machine status, including:
o Tooling changes and tool life concerns
o Maintenance or equipment issues
o Machine performance or repeatability trends
o Status of ongoing setups or jobs in progress

• Demonstrate working knowledge of shop floor systems used for production tracking, quality documentation, and communication

• Assist supervisors, mechanical engineers, and planners with work organization to:
o Support continuous improvement initiatives
o Reduce setup time, cycle time, and machine downtime

• Implement and suggest waste elimination initiatives within the department, including recycling opportunities and reduction of production-related waste

• Train and support new hires on machine operation, tooling changes, inspection methods, and shop procedures

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S standards

• Comply with all company safety, quality, and production policies

• Perform other related duties as assigned to support operational needs
